Forward says appointment of Carlo Ancelotti gives the Selecao “a different weight”
Real Madrid’s Rodrygo is determined to make the most of his return to the Brazil squad, after what the forward described as a “tough” period of his career.
Rodrygo’s last appearance for Brazil was in March. He was left out of the national team for the June and September international windows. In that period he also had limited playing time for Madrid, due to both injury and poor form.
“It was a really long time, being away from the Brazil team felt like an eternity,” Rodrygo said. “It was tough, I went through a lot during that period.
“But it was a good thing, it allowed me to think things through, calm down and get my head straight. I feel good and ready to be here again, to give my best, to show my best side with the Selecao.”
Rodrygo has been recalled for Brazil’s upcoming friendlies against South Korea in Seoul and Japan in Tokyo, as the five-time world champions continue preparations for the 2026 World Cup.
The forward had high praise for Carlo Ancelotti, Brazil’s current coach, who recalled him to the national side and will lead the Selecao to next year’s showpiece in North America.
The Italian’s appointment, Rodrygo said, gives Brazil a psychological advantage.
“I think that when you’re on the pitch, you look out and see Ancelotti guiding you, it gives you a different weight,” said the 24-year-old.
“I think that’s also the case for our opponents. ‘We’re going to play against Brazil, whose manager is Ancelotti.’ People respect him more. It gives us greater credibility.
“And, of course, I’ll always speak highly of him because he’s someone who has always helped me a lot, who has helped me grow, and having a manager like that guiding you leaves you speechless.”
