Former Italy boss Roberto Mancini expressed interest in returning to coach the Azzurri after Luciano Spalletti’s dismissal, citing a desire to work with the national team again.
Roberto Mancini, the former Italy national team coach, has admitted that he’s open to coaching the Azzurri again.
After stepping down as Italy coach in September 2023 to join the Saudi Arabia national team, Mancini only lasted 18 games in his new role before parting ways in October 2024.
Reflecting on his departure from the Italy job, Mancini acknowledged that he made a wrong choice by not communicating more with FIGC president Gravina during a difficult period.
Mancini expressed his passion for coaching the national team, saying, “There’s nothing better than coaching the national team.”
He emphasized the unique satisfaction of winning with Italy, stating, “I’ve won with clubs, but winning with Italy is something else entirely.” Mancini also revealed that he felt amazing while working at Coverciano, the Italy team’s training base, and that the atmosphere was “truly fantastic.”
Mancini’s comments suggest that he’s eager to take on the challenge of coaching Italy again, despite the risks involved. “There’s no doubt it would be a great challenge, a big risk,” he said. “But sometimes you need to take risks, right?”
With Luciano Spalletti’s dismissal, Mancini’s return to the Italy job is now a possibility, and it remains to be seen whether he’ll get the opportunity to lead the Azzurri once again.
