Striker set to miss clásico on 26 October

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has sustained an injury in his left thigh and is facing up to six weeks on the sidelines.

The 37-year-old featured for Poland in their 2-0 victory over Lithuania on Sunday, playing full time and scoring the second goal.

The player felt some discomfort after the game but waved it away as minor, saying “there shouldn’t be a problem”. Barcelona later confirmed the injury.

“Robert Lewandowski has suffered a muscle tear in the biceps femoris of his left thigh,” said the Catalan club in a statement. “His recovery time will depend on how the injury evolves.”

The club did not provide a specific timeline, but reports from Mundo Deportivo suggest the Poland captain could be out for four to six weeks. This means he will likely miss the clásico on 26 October.

Lewandowski’s absence adds to a mounting injury crisis at Barcelona. Earlier in the week, the club announced that Dani Olmo had returned from Spain duty with a calf issue.

Ferran Torres was also withdrawn due to muscle discomfort, although Torres’ situation is not thought to be serious and the striker is expected to be available this weekend.

Other players already out include Raphinha, Lamine Yamal, Joan Garcia, and Gavi.

Lewandowski has taken a secondary role behind Torres this season, starting only three league games, but he had still scored four goals before his injury.
