Barcelona manager is aware of criticism about Rashford’s intensity
Hansi Flick warned Marcus Rashford that he would have to press and contribute defensively before approving the English forward’s loan move to the club.
The Barcelona manager held a direct conversation with Rashford last week ahead of the formal agreement between the Catalan club and Manchester United.
At the meeting, Flick stressed that the 27-year-old would be required to press aggressively if he is to earn regular minutes under the German’s system.
Flick is known for his high-intensity tactical approach and would have been aware that Rashford has faced criticism at United for a lack of intensity and defensive work.
According to sources in Spain, the manager only approved the move after receiving a firm commitment from Rashford that he was ready to adapt.
Barcelona are expected to confirm Rashford’s arrival in the coming days. The deal agreed with United is a season-long loan with an option to buy for €35m next summer. United will receive a €5m compensation fee if the option is not triggered.
Rashford rejected offers from other clubs who were interested in his services, making it clear he only wanted a move to Barcelona.
In Catalonia, the player is expected to play on the left of the front three, although he could occasionally be called upon to play through the middle in Robert Lewandowski’s absence.
