Ahead of the Conference League final, Chelsea’s captain says winning the trophy can bring a new era of success at the club
Chelsea captain Reece James is confident that winning the Europa Conference League final against Real Betis could mark the beginning of a new era of success for the club.
James believes that securing this trophy would not only bring silverware back to Chelsea’s cabinet but also instil a winning mentality in the younger players who have played a crucial role in the team’s run in the competition.
“It’s been a few years since we’ve got our hands on silverware,” James said. “So if you zoom out and take a further look, I would like to think that this would bring the winning trophy back to the club and help the players who haven’t won so much in their career so far.”
James emphasized the importance of winning the trophy for the Chelsea fans, stating that it would be “huge” for them to see their team win every possible trophy. “For the Chelsea fans, I think it would be huge to win every trophy if possible. That’s why we’re going to do it for them tomorrow. We’re going to work extra hard for them.”
The Chelsea captain also highlighted the significance of this achievement for the young players in the squad, who have been instrumental in the team’s success in the Conference League. “A lot of the young players have played such a key part in this competition so far this season, so it would mean a lot.”
With Chelsea having won numerous titles in the past, including the Champions League, Premier League, and FA Cups, the Europa Conference League trophy would add a new feather to their cap. James believes that this win could be a catalyst for a new generation of players to repeat the glory days of the Roman Abramovich era.
