Goalkeeper plans to engage in GT3 racing after football
Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois hopes to participate in GT3 racing after he retires from football, saying it would be “a dream come true”.
Courtois is a big motor racing fan, and even has his own motorsport team, TC Racing, which is currently competing in Spain’s Formula 4 series.
“When I stop playing football, it would be a dream come true to part in a GT3 race,” said Courtois. “But I don’t know my abilities, and if I participate in something, I don’t want to be three seconds behind the rest. I want to know what I’m capable of first.”
The Belgium international also said he plans to elevate TC Racing into Formula 2.
“We’re currently in Formula 4 in Spain but normally we’d move up a level next year by participating in the Eurocup-3,” Courtois said.
A move into Formula 1, Courtois admitted, is likely out of reach without major investment.
“Formula 1 may be a bit difficult because I would need a very big partner,” said the 33-year-old. “But the goal and our dream is to move up to Formula 3, and then hopefully even Formula 2.
“It involves more than I thought. The logistics alone are intense. Last year, just getting everything organised for the season start was a challenge.
“But we had a decent first year, picked up some points, and this season we’re doing even better. Still, we want to keep pushing.”
