Defender is expected to be out until April but is aiming to reach full fitness in time to make the Brazil team
Real Madrid’s Eder Militao has insisted he will be ready in time for the 2026 World Cup despite suffering a serious muscle injury.
The defender was injured during Madrid’s 2-0 La Liga defeat to Celta Vigo and it is believed he may not return to competitive action until April 2026.
Militao said he was disappointed by the setback but said he would do everything he could to return to fitness and join the Selecao for the global tournament in 2026.
“No return date has been set,” said Militao. “The priority is the Fifa World Cup. Doing things well so I can come back strong. [I’m] 100% confident.”
Brazil are five-time world champions but last won the tournament in 2002. They face Morocco, Haiti and Scotland in the group stages as they seek to reclaim the prestigious prize once more.
When available, Militao has been a regular fixture in Brazil squads and was part of the team at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. However, he has struggled with injuries over the past two years and Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti has warned that only players who are perfectly fit will be considered.
Militao is expected to miss Brazil’s March international friendlies against France and Croatia as he continues his recovery.
