No timeline has been provided but the type of injury can take weeks to heal

Real Madrid have confirmed that Franco Mastantuono has been diagnosed with pubalgia, a groin injury.

A brief club statement on Monday read: “Following tests carried out today on our player Franco Mastantuono by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with pubalgia. His recovery will be monitored.”

No timeline was provided for his return, leaving Mastantuono sidelined indefinitely.

The 18-year-old has not trained with the main squad this week and instead worked indoors at Valdebebas under the supervision of club doctors.

Before the injury Mastantuono had begun to establish himself in the Madrid squad, featuring 12 times across all competitions and producing a goal and an assist.

Although his involvement has been limited by more senior options Jude Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga, he remained an important player for attacking depth.

Pubalgia, often referred to as a sports hernia, is a chronic groin issue that can take weeks or even months to heal.

Recurrence is common, especially if rehabilitation is rushed, something Madrid’s medical team will be keen to avoid given Mastantuono’s age.

Rodrygo is the most straightforward replacement for Mastantuono on the right wing when Madrid play a 4-2-3-1 or 3-4-3 formation, but Alonso has also regularly played a 4-4-2, with Mbappe and Vinicius as the two central attackers.
