Right-back made only three league starts after spending a month on the sidelines through injury, before sustaining another

Real Madrid’s Trent Alexander-Arnold will be out for two months after tests on Thursday confirmed he has torn a muscle in his left thigh.

The 27-year-old was forced off shortly before the hour mark during Madrid’s 3-0 win against Athletic Club on Wednesday night.

The right-back had one of his best performances in a Madrid shirt priority to that injury. His long diagonal pass in the seventh minute set up the opening goal for Kylian Mbappe, before he delivered an exquisite cross Madrid capitalised on to double their lead.

Alexander-Arnold was making his third league start after a month on the sidelines due to an injury he sustained in September. This latest issue is different but occurred in the same leg.

Madrid are already missing Dani Carvajal at right-back, after he had knee surgery ruling him out until next year.

In September and October, both Alexander-Arnold and Carvajal were out and Xabi Alonso was forced to use a makeshift right-back, including Federico Valverde. Against Athletic Club it was Raul Ascencio who replaced Alexander-Arnold when he limped off.
