Real Betis produced a powerful first-half display to claim a 3-1 win away to Girona on Monday night, with head coach Manuel Pellegrini full of praise for his side’s performance.
Goals from Johnny Cardoso, Antony, and Isco secured the win before Girona’s Cristhian Stuani grabbed a late consolation in the 88th minute.
“It was a very complete game,” Pellegrini said post-match. “We knew they were on a bad run and not very confident, so it was important to go out and dominate from the start—and we did that.”
The win keeps Betis in the fight for a European place, and with a UEFA Conference League semi-final also on the horizon, Pellegrini is urging his team to maintain momentum.
One of the standout players has been Manchester United loanee Antony, who found the net again and looks increasingly at home in Spain.
Asked about keeping the Brazilian winger permanently, Pellegrini said: “We’d all love him to stay. He’s completely involved with the squad and the club. But right now, we focus on the next game—and that’s Valladolid.”
With six league games remaining and a shot at European silverware, Real Betis still have plenty to play for in what could be a memorable end to their season.
