Sporting director Manu Fajardo says “the desire on both sides is to be together again”

Real Betis are maintaining hope of bringing Manchester United winger Antony back to the club, despite acknowledging the financial challenges of a deal.

Antony enjoyed a strong second half of last season in Seville, scoring nine goals and registering five assists in 26 appearances. His performances helped Betis reach the Conference League final and reignited his career after a difficult spell at Old Trafford.

Speaking to reporters, Betis sporting director Manu Fajardo admitted both the player and the club want a reunion.

“The desire on both sides is to be together again,” Fajardo said. “Every day that passes, the hope grows, but if Antony arrives, it will have to be in figures that suit Betis.”

Antony, who joined United from Ajax for £85m in 2022, remains under contract until 2027 but is expected to leave this summer. He was left out of United’s pre-season tour of the US, with the club open to offers.

Betis would prefer a permanent transfer but the club’s budget makes that unlikely, so they are instead looking to negotiate another loan.

The club face competition from several European sides, including Benfica, Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig, while there has also been interest from the Saudi Pro League.
