Manchester United are willing to sell forward if £40m offer arrives, even if it is not from loan club Aston Villa
Marcus Rashford is likely to leave Aston Villa this summer, with nothing in the club’s loan deal with Manchester United preventing other clubs from swooping in on the forward.
United are reportedly open to selling Rashford for £40 million this summer, and not necessarily to Aston Villa where he is currently on loan. While Villa have an option to make the 27-year-old’s move permanent for that price, they do not hold exclusive rights to a deal at that valuation.
Indeed, any club willing to match the £40m figure and reach personal terms with Rashford could secure his signature, even if Villa are still interested in him.
Rashford joined Villa in January in a surprise mid-season loan deal amid reports of a strained relationship with new United head coach Ruben Amorim. That relationship looks like it is beyond repair, with sources close to the club suggesting Rashford is unlikely to feature again for United as long as the Portuguese remains in charge. Though the United No 10 is under contract at Old Trafford until 2028, a move away looks almost certain.
It is understood that the player wants to move to a club who can guarantee Champions League football next season. He is also said to be reluctant to move to a London club. Both conditions limit his list of potential suitors.
Despite overall modest output at Villa (scoring four goals and contributing six assists in 17 appearances), Rashford looked to be finding form and regaining his sharpness under Unai Emery. He also earned a recall to the England squad in March under caretaker manager Lee Carsley. It seemed like the odds of remaining at the club were very high, but he has now missed their last three games with a hamstring issue and won’t be eligible for their final Premier League fixture, against his parent club Manchester United.
However, Villa will ultimately have a small window at the end of season to decide whether to trigger the purchase clause or leave Rashford’s future in his and United’s hands.
