When the teams last met a year ago, Liverpool were pushing toward the Premier League title, prompting PSG coach Luis Enrique to describe them as an almost perfect team. Since then, however, the balance of power appears to have shifted.
PSG’s penalty shootout victory over Liverpool in last season’s round of 16 proved pivotal, launching the French champions on their way to a first-ever Champions League triumph after overturning a first-leg deficit.
The two clubs have followed different trajectories since that meeting. While Arne Slot guided Liverpool to domestic success, his side have struggled this season and arrive in Paris on the back of a heavy defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup.
PSG, meanwhile, appear to be peaking at the right moment despite injury setbacks earlier in the campaign. A recent 3-1 victory over Toulouse extended their lead at the top of Ligue 1. Ousmane Dembélé played a starring role in that win, while PSG also secured a postponement of their key fixture against RC Lens to focus fully on the European showdown.

Luis Enrique insisted his side are ready but acknowledged there is still room for improvement as they aim to capitalise on their strong form.
With Dembélé in top condition and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia influential in the previous round against Chelsea, PSG will look to maintain their impressive record against English opposition and deepen Liverpool’s difficult campaign.
