PSG and Botafogo secured enough points to advance to the knockout stages of the FIFA Club World Cup.
PSG and Botafogo topped their group in the Club World Cup after their last round of group stage fixtures. Coming into this last round of fixtures, Botafogo topped the group after handing PSG a shocking 1-0. PSG needed to bounce back from that loss with a win against Seattle Sounders if they wanted to make it out of their group.
PSG had one plan; to win; and they executed it perfectly. Although they didn’t totally outplay Seattle Sounders in the game, the Parisians walked away with a 2-0 win over the MLS side.
They went ahead deep in the first half after Vitinha’s long range shot deflected off Kvaratskhelia into the net to break the deadlock. PSG added their second in the second half to seal the game. Bracola who was fresh on the pitch played a precise ball to the feet of Hakimi who slotted it into the net.
While PSG were celebrating their win, Botafogo were beaten 1-0 by Atletico Madrid. Griezmann’s strike in the 87th minute sank the Brazilians. However, it was not enough to grant the Spanish side to the next round. Botafogo, however, finished second in the group due to the loss and above Atletico Madrid based on goal difference.
