The Premier League has officially announced the schedule for the 2025/26 season, emphasising player welfare and preparation for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The season is set to commence on the weekend of 16-17 August 2025, and conclude on Sunday, 24 May 2026.
The league will span 33 weekends and include five midweek rounds, although some fixture changes may occur during the course of the season.
An 83-day break is scheduled between the end of the 2024/25 season and the start of the new campaign to provide players with enough time to recover.
There were serious concerns raised over fixture congestion this season, which has led to numerous player injuries. In response, the Premier League has ensured that no two match rounds will occur within 60 hours of each other during the festive period next season.
There will also be no fixtures on Christmas Eve so that players and staff can spend the holiday with their families.
The season will end 18 days before the 2026 FIFA World Cup, in order to give players sufficient time to rest and prepare for the biggest sporting event in football.
