City manager hopes his team will be in the mix as things become clearer

Pep Guardiola has said it is far too early to draw conclusions about the season after just eight games.

Manchester City travel to face Aston Villa on Sunday with a victory in four of their last five Premier League games, having lost two out of their first three in August.

Guardiola’s side are three points behind leaders Arsenal and one above Liverpool, but the Spaniard wants there to be no illusions about what his or any other team are capable of.

“In the first two, three games we were done and now it looks like Liverpool are done [after three successive losses],” joked Guardiola. “I’ll tell you that we will be back.

“I’ve said many times that the pundits, the specialists, the former footballers know what’s going to happen after five games. I’m not able to do that.”

The City manager believes the shape of the title race will only become clear as the season develops.

Guardiola said: “Ten, 15 games to know what’s going on. Liverpool and Arsenal are there, someone else will be there and hopefully we can be there.”
