Manager calls for improvement as City face Marco Silva’s Fulham

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has said his side’s inconsistency have kept them on the back foot this season, and they have to deal with that if they are to have any hope of winning the title by May.

City are six points adrift of league leaders Arsenal, and the gap was nearly increased to nine last weekend after Liverpool took the lead in the 74th minute at Anfield, although Guardiola’s side eventually rallied and won through goals from Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland.

Guardiola believes his side still have a chance, albeit a very narrow one, to climb to the table and win the league if they do the right things over the next 13 games.

“We have done really good things,” Guardiola said. “I have had the feeling for many, many months but we are not consistent enough.

“It will happen if we do what we need to do. I want to deserve the three points. I want us to play the way we have to play to stay there.”

Guardiola’s side face Fulham next at the Etihad, looking to build on the positive feeling after overcoming the Anfield test.

“The distance is not huge but considering how Arsenal is doing, six points is a lot,” Guardiola said.

“Next game against a team like [Fulham] who every year is better and better, so we’ll see. The movements they do, they’re really good. The patterns and the quality they have, the composure of the play, the speed they have.

“Marco is one of the top, top, top managers I face. Destined to be one of the top in a few years for sure.”
