City boss praises midfielder’s resurgence at Everton and says City may want him back

Pep Guardiola has suggested that Jack Grealish could still have a future at Manchester City after his loan spell at Everton.

Grealish joined Everton on a season-long loan in August after slipping down the pecking order at City, but he has since emerged as arguably David Moyes’ most influential player.

The England international has played a key role in Everton’s strong start to the campaign. He has produced a goal and four assists, winning the Premier League player of the month award for August and topping the list of chances created in the league.

Grealish’s loan spell with everton will end next summer and Guardiola suggested there was still a place for the 30-year-old in his parent club.

“I think he has a contract for one more year with us,” said City’s manager. “The important thing is he is back. He is a massive influence in the Everton games.

“After what’s happened, maybe Manchester City want him back, but I don’t know. Many things are still going to happen. We’ll see.

“The important thing is he is playing again, a lot of minutes. This is the standard. I’m happy, really, honestly, that he’s back in, trying his best.”

The English winger will be unable to face City on Saturday, since Premier League rules do not allow a player on loan to face his parent club.

“I had the pleasure of facing him when he was in Dortmund and hopefully I’m not going to face him again for the rest of my life,” said Guardiola.

“He’s a top-class player. In world football, there are four, five, six, 10 players who make the difference. I think he’s one of them. We have him, hopefully for many years, and are really pleased for that.”
