A man accused of driving into crowds during Liverpool’s Premier League title parade has pleaded not guilty to 31 offences at a court hearing on Thursday.

The 53-year-old, Paul Doyle, entered not guilty pleas to charges including dangerous driving, affray, 18 counts of attempted grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent, nine counts of causing GBH with intent and two counts of wounding with intent.

The charges relate to 29 alleged victims, ranging in age from six months to 77 years. Police previously said that 134 people were injured when a Ford Galaxy Titanium was allegedly driven by Doyle into crowds on Water Street in Liverpool city centre at around 6pm on 26 May, shortly after the club’s title celebrations.

Doyle, appearing via video link from prison at Liverpool Crown Court, appeared to shake his head during parts of the arraignment while reading documents as the charges were put to him.

He was originally charged with seven offences, but prosecutors added a further 24 counts at a hearing last month following a review of the evidence. He also appeared through video link on that occasion.

The case has been adjourned for a future trial date.
