Czech striker Patrik Schick has extended his contract with Bayer Leverkusen until 2030, committing to the club amid significant changes in the squad.
Bayer Leverkusen have announced that Patrik Schick has signed a new contract extension, keeping him at the club until 2030. The 29-year-old Czech striker has been an integral part of Leverkusen’s success, particularly during their unbeaten 2023/24 season, where they won the Bundesliga and German Cup.
Schick’s contributions to Leverkusen have been significant, with 81 goals in 168 appearances since joining the club in 2020. He played a crucial role under former coach Xabi Alonso, who has since departed to join Real Madrid. Schick’s decision to extend his contract comes amid a period of significant change at Leverkusen, with several key players leaving the club.
The striker expressed his commitment to continuing to contribute goals and being a key part of the team’s rebuild. “I want to and will continue to contribute goals, that’s my strength,” Schick said. He also emphasized his desire to be part of a team capable of winning trophies.
Managing director of sport Simon Rolfes highlighted Schick’s importance to the team, citing his top-quality ability, exceptional goal return, and international experience. “With the rebuild in the next cycle at Bayer, we see Patrik as a motor of development,” Rolfes said.
Former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has taken over as Leverkusen’s new coach, and he will work with Schick to build a new team capable of winning trophies. The club has also recently signed centre-half Jarell Quansah, goalkeeper Mark Flekken, and midfielder Malik Tillman to support their rebuild.
