Atalanta boss Raffaele Palladino labels Bayern Munich the world’s best after a 10-2 aggregate defeat

Following a 4-1 second-leg defeat that consolidated a staggering 10-2 aggregate scoreline, Atalanta coach Raffaele Palladino offered a blunt and respectful assessment of the mountain his side failed to climb. For the Italian outfit, the round of 16 was less a contest and more a masterclass delivered by a Bayern Munich side operating at the peak of its powers.

Speaking after the final whistle, Palladino didn’t search for excuses; instead choosing to laud the tactical supremacy of Vincent Kompany’s men. “I want to congratulate Bayern and wish them the best of luck. We faced the best team in the world,” Palladino remarked with striking humility.

He emphasized that while his players gave their all, the experience served as a vital, if painful, learning curve for a club looking to cement its place among the continental heavyweights.

On the opposite touchline, Vincent Kompany was a picture of pride, celebrating a good day for the club that balanced ruthless efficiency with a commitment to entertainment. The Belgian coach praised his squad’s relentless hunger, noting that even with a massive aggregate lead, the players never stopped hunting for goals to reward the home supporters.

While the veterans steered the ship, Kompany used the second half to showcase the next generation of Bayern talent. The manager highlighted the difficulty of breaking into such a star-studded lineup, offering specific praise for Filip Pavić, who earned his minutes after a year of diligent training.

He also singled out the superb Lennart Karl, describing the youngster as professionally advanced beyond his years.

However, the headline of the night remained the return of Harry Kane. The England captain, freshly back from an injury layoff, proved he hadn’t lost a yard of sharpness by netting a brace. Kompany admitted he was at a loss for words when describing Kane’s second goal, calling the striker’s movement unbelievable.

For a player to produce such a clinical performance immediately upon his return speaks volumes about the standards Kane has set this season.

With Atalanta now in the rearview mirror, the conversation in Munich has already pivoted toward a gargantuan quarter-final showdown with Real Madrid. Kompany acknowledged the sheer weight of history behind both institutions, describing the upcoming tie as something very special.

He noted that Madrid historically raises their level as the competition intensifies, a challenge he insists his players are mentally prepared to meet head-on.
