Joao Palhinha scores a stunning late equalizer to secure a 1-1 draw for Tottenham against winless Wolves.
Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers played out a 1-1 draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Joao Palhinha scoring a late equalizer to deny Wolves their first win of the season.
The visitors took the lead in the 54th minute through Santiago Bueno, who tapped in after Guglielmo Vicario parried Ladislav Krejci’s header from a corner.
Wolves had been struggling to find form this season, losing their first five league games.
However, they showed significant improvement against Tottenham, dominating the second half and creating several chances to extend their lead. A brilliant team move teed up Hugo Bueno, but he could only fire straight at Vicario with only the goalkeeper to beat.
Tottenham, on the other hand, had started brightly, with Mohammed Kudus hitting the bar with a header and arrowing a fine strike into the top corner, only to be flagged offside. Despite their dominance in the first half, Spurs failed to register a shot on target in the second period until deep into added time.
The turning point came when Mathys Tel cushioned a cross into the path of Palhinha, who curled a beautiful shot into the far corner from outside the box.
This stunning late strike secured a point for Tottenham, who move up to third in the table despite winning just one of their last four league games while Wolves remained rooted to the foot of the table.
