Pundit tells the Egyptian best course of action was to “bite your lip”
Michael Owen has criticised Mohamed Salah for his heavy outburst against Liverpool and Arne Slot on Saturday.
For the game against Leeds United, Salah was left on the bench for the third consecutive league match. He has come on as a substitute in only one of those games, the 1-1 draw against Sunderland.
After the final whistle at Elland Road, the 33-year-old went to reporters and criticised both the manager and the club, saying he’d been “thrown under the bus”.
His action has been condemned by many pundits, most notably Owen. The former Liverpool striker said on social media that it was a mistake for the forward to air his frustration.
“Oh @mosalah I can imagine how you feel,” Owen wrote on X. “You’ve carried this team for a long time and won everything there is to win. But this is a team game and you simply can’t publicly say what you’ve said. You’re going to Afcon in a week.
“Surely you bite your lip, enjoy representing your country and see how the land lies when you get back?”
Liverpool have two upcoming fixtures against Inter and Brighton before Salah can join Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations. It is not clear whether he will feature in any of those, although after his outburst it would hardly be surprising if he did not.
