The 29-year-old forward picked up a knock during England’s 3-0 friendly win over Wales on Thursday, and subsequent assessments confirmed he wouldn’t be fit for Tuesday’s match against Latvia. Although this is bad news for England, it is more saddening for Villa fans who have seen the club struggle recently.
Watkins has also been on a goal drought. Although he found the back of the net against Fulham, he still won’t be pleased with his current form. This injury now adds more gloom to any hopes of returning to top form soon.
