Bayern Munich produced a dominant display to defeat Atalanta 6-1 in the Champions League round-of-16 first leg.

Bayern Munich took a huge step toward the Champions League quarter-finals with a commanding 6-1 victory over Atalanta BC in the first leg of their round-of-16 clash. The dominant win leaves the German champions with one foot firmly in the last eight of the competition.

Bayern Munich set the tone early in Bergamo, pressing aggressively and creating chances from the start. Their early pressure paid off when a well-worked corner routine allowed Serge Gnabry to deliver a low ball across the six-yard box for Josip Stanišić, who tapped home to open the scoring.

The visitors continued to control the game and soon doubled their advantage through Michael Olise. Cutting inside from the right wing, the winger unleashed a precise left-footed strike that found the far corner to extend Bayern’s lead.

Olise remained at the heart of Bayern’s attacking play and provided the assist for the third goal. His perfectly weighted through ball released Gnabry, who confidently finished to leave Atalanta struggling before halftime.

Bayern’s dominance continued after the break as Nicolas Jackson added a fourth goal following a swift counterattack that began from an Atalanta set piece. The visitors looked unstoppable as chances kept flowing.

Olise later grabbed his second goal of the night before Jamal Musiala added a sixth with a close-range finish after being set up by Jackson. Bayern even came close to another goal when Dayot Upamecano saw his header crash against the post.

Atalanta managed a late consolation through Mario Pašalić, but the damage had already been done. Bayern now appear almost certain to reach the quarter-finals, where they could face either Real Madrid or Manchester City in a blockbuster tie.
