Napoli have made initial contact for the forward but there are still differences in valuation

Darwin Nunez could be edging closer to an Anfield exit, with the Liverpool striker waiting to see whether Napoli are prepared to meet the club’s valuation.

Napoli have made initial contact for Nunez and submitted an offer in the region of €55m plus €5m in performance-related bonuses, according to reports from Italy. Liverpool, however, are holding out for a flat €60m fee before greenlighting any deal.

The situation now depends on whether Napoli are willing to close that small but significant gap in valuation of the player. Nunez, for his part, is open to the move and has informed those close to him that he is ready for a fresh start away from Merseyside.

The 26-year-old endured a difficult 2024-25 campaign, scoring just five goals in the Premier League and registering only eight starts under new head coach Arne Slot. While his work rate and physical presence remained assets, his inconsistency in front of goal and limited role in Slot’s system raised doubts about his long-term future at the club.

Napoli have identified Nunez as a possible replacement for Victor Osimhen. Completion of the striker’s permanent move to Galatasaray this summer could unlock funds for the deal. The Serie A champions have been rejuvenating their squad for next season, and adding a striker with European experience remains a priority.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are not believed to be actively pushing Nunez out, but would be willing to sanction his departure at the right price.
