Red Devils are targeting a midfield rebuild by next summer; Newcastle also interested in the player
Nottingham Forest will demand a fee in excess of £100m for Elliot Anderson, who has been extensively linked to Manchester United.
Anderson joined Forest from Newcastle in July 2024 for £35m, but the club are aiming to make a vast profit with the player’s stock rising rapidly due to a string of eye-catching performances, according to the Telegraph.
The 23-year-old has impressed under three different managers – Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou and Sean Dyche – at the City Ground over the past year. It has earned him recognition from England manager Thomas Tuchel, and it is widely expected that he will be in the Three Lions’ starting midfield at the 2026 World Cup barring some bizzare turnaround in form.
United want a midfield rebuild next year after spending the summer in a £225m revamp of their attack. The club’s current midfield two are the 31-year-old Bruno Fernandes and the 33-year-old Casemiro, who will be 34 by next summer. Other options such as Manuel Ugarte and the talented Kobbie Mainoo either lack Amorim’s tactical requirements in the position, in the case of the latter, or have failed to impress, in the case of the former.
Alongside Anderson, United have previously expressed interest in Brighton’s Carlos Baleba and have also been linked with Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton.
Anderson is contracted to Forest until 2029, meaning the club are in a strong position to negotiate a large transfer fee. There is no desire for a January move from either Forest or United.
Newcastle are also said to be interested in their former player, which means they could compete for him next summer.
