Nuno Espirito Santo says lack of options is “a major concern”
Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo has warned that his side are short of options in several positions and need urgent reinforcements before the new Premier League season begins.
Forest open their campaign at home to Brentford on Sunday and will also compete in the Europa League, their first appearance in European competition since 1996.
They were promoted into the tournament in place of Crystal Palace after the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld Uefa’s decision to move the London club into the Conference League.
Forest have brought in four players so far this summer – forwards Dan Ndoye and Igor Jesus, defender Jair Cunha, and goalkeeper Angus Gunn on a free transfer from Norwich City.
However, eight players have also left, including winger Anthony Elanga to Newcastle United and midfielder Danilo to Botafogo.
Nuno warned that the lack of depth is “a major concern”.
“I am concerned,” said the manager. “We are short on options, not having solutions the game might need is a major concern.
“The problems will be ‘ifs’ during the game, problems that arise, we need options and solutions.
“Things are moving, potentially, medicals and then let’s see. We need players. For sure, they are not going to be available for Sunday.”
