Signings come after Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo bemoaned the shortage of options at his disposal

Nottingham Forest have strengthened their squad with the signings of Omari Hutchinson and James McAtee on long-term contracts, paying a combined fee of more than £65m.

Hutchinson arrives from Ipswich Town for £37.5m after a single season at Portman Road, while McAtee joins from Manchester City in a deal worth close to £30m. Both players have signed five-year deals at the City Ground.

The moves come days after head coach Nuno Espirito Santo voiced concerns about the depth of his squad ahead of a demanding campaign that includes Europa League football, calling the situation “a major concern”.

Hutchinson, who came through Chelsea’s academy before moving to Ipswich last summer, said he was “excited” about playing for Forest.

“I’ve played at [Forest’s stadium] the City Ground a few times and it’s always felt like a hostile atmosphere, so I’m looking forward to playing here with the fans behind us,” said Hutchinson.

“I’m going to give it my all and I’m looking forward to the challenge as it’s a new chapter for me, but I feel ready.”

McAtee had been on Forest’s radar for some time and had limited opportunities at City, starting just three league matches last season.

“I feel ready for a new challenge and the club had a great season last year so I want to help build on that and show what I can do,” said the 22-year-old.
