Nico Paz scores a stunning free-kick and provides two assists in Como’s 2-0 victory over Lazio
Nico Paz had a standout performance in Como’s 2-0 win over Lazio, scoring a beautiful free-kick and providing the assist for the first goal.
The 20-year-old Argentina international’s impressive display on the pitch has caught the attention of several top clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, who are reportedly interested in signing him for €50 million.
Despite the transfer rumors, Paz started the match against Lazio and made a significant impact on the game. He set up the first goal for Anastasios Douvikas with a neat turn and incisive pass. Paz then doubled Como’s advantage with a stunning free-kick from over 25 yards out, which rifled into the roof of the net.
“I always practice set-pieces,” Paz said after the match, when asked about his impressive free-kick. “We sometimes joke about it in training, but the idea is always the same: Try to shoot as best as possible. When the ball went in, I can’t say I was surprised because I prepare a lot for these situations. I’d prefer to say that I was really happy.”
Paz’s form has been impressive this season, and it’s no surprise that he’s attracting interest from bigger clubs.
Inter Milan has reportedly identified him as a potential long-term replacement for Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who will be 36 at the end of the season. Paz’s style of play has drawn comparisons to Luis Alberto, who transitioned from an attacking midfielder to a box-to-box midfielder under Simone Inzaghi at Lazio.
Tottenham’s interest in Paz comes as they search for a new attacker after losing out on the signing of Eberechi Eze to Arsenal. With Paz’s talent and potential, it’s likely that several top clubs will be keeping a close eye on his progress.
