Veteran goalkeeper to replace James Trafford after the latter was sold to Manchester City

Burnley have completed the signing of Newcastle’s veteran goalkeeper Martin Dubravka for an undisclosed fee.

The 36-year-old Slovakian moves to Turf Moor on a one-year contract after Burnley sold James Trafford to Manchester City.

Dubravka brings significant Premier League experience to Scott Parker’s squad, having made 179 appearances for Newcastle across seven and a half seasons.

He was named the club’s Player of the Year in 2020 and kept 54 clean sheets during his time on Tyneside.

Burnley returned to the Premier League for the 2025-26 season after spending one year in the Championship.

Dubravka said: “I’ve only heard really positive things about the club, the culture and the environment we work in, so I’m excited about getting going with the season kicking off next weekend.

“Burnley had a fantastic campaign last season, built on a superb defensive record, and I can’t wait to come in and add my experience and quality to what looks an exciting squad of players.”

Dubravka joined Newcastle in 2018 and quickly established himself as first-choice, although his role became reduced after the Magpies signed Nick Pope from Burnley in 2022.

He also spent a brief stint on loan at Manchester United during the 2022-23 season, making two appearances.
