After a dominant display at St. James’ Park against Manchester United, Newcastle have jumped past Chelsea in the Premier League table.
The Magpies stumped past Manchester United in the 4-1 victory and moved up to 4th position on the log. They now have 56 points from 31 games with a game in hand and a chance to move past Nottingham Forest, who are third with 57 points.
Chelsea’s failure to win their last two Premier League games has now been punished by Newcastle. The Blues were unable to take all three points against Brentford and managed to get a draw against relegation-ridden Ipswich.
Chelsea, who were nearly challenging for the Premier League title, have suffered a significant dip in form and have dropped all the way from 2nd position in December to 6th as of today.
The race for Champions League football continues to heat up, especially with the season coming to a phase where there is little margin for error. Any slip-ups can see your team slowly lose the goal you’ve been fighting to achieve all season.
With Chelsea now in sixth position, behind Manchester City and Newcastle, Enzo Maresca’s men have a lot of work to do. Missing out on Champions League Football for another season will certainly not go down well with fans, and it could impact the club financially.
