Move is worth around £34m, including an initial fee of £30m and around £4m in add-ons
Newcastle United are finally adding another player to their ranks after the club effectively secured the signing of AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw.
The 24-year-old centre-back is scheduled for a medical on Monday ahead of a transfer to Tyneside. The move is worth around £34m, including an initial fee of £30m and around £4m in add-ons.
Newcastle have not signed a player since Anthony Elanga joined the club early last month for £55m, barring the recruitment of goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale on loan last week.
In that time, Newcastle have gone close but ultimately missed out on a slew of targets, including strikers Hugo Ekitike, Liam Delap and Joao Pedro, and goalkeeper James Trafford, all of whom preferred to join their Premier League rivals at the top end of the table.
Speaking to Sky Sports Italy prior to his departure for England, Thiaw said: “I want to thank everyone at AC Milan, I’ve learned so much here. Newcastle? I’m happy with this choice, I’m ready for the Premier League.”
Thiaw made 85 appearances for Milan in three years after joining from Schalke 04 in Germany. Last season he played 31 games in all competitions, helping Milan win the Supercoppa Italiana.
