Injury problems add to manager Eddie Howe’s headache after a poor start to the campaign

Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe has confirmed that Tino Livramento faces a significant spell out after the defender was stretchered off during Newcastle United’s 2-1 loss to Arsenal at St James’ Park.

The 22-year-old went down in the second half following a challenge from William Saliba. He received some on-field treatment before being stretchered off.

Newcastle scored after the half hour and led for much of the match, before two late goals from Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Magalhaes turned the game in Arsenal’s favour. Livramento had left the pitch in the 77th minute, before the Magpies conceded the goals.

“I am concerned because he’s such an important player for us,” said Howe. “He’s been magnificent at the start of this season.

“He’s a big player, so if we are going to lose him it’s going to be a huge blow.”

Livramento joins Fabian Schar and new signings Yoane Wissa and Jacob Ramsey on the list of absentees for Howe’s side.

The injury problems only adds to the manager’s headache after a poor opening to the campaign. The Magpies have had just one win in their first six matches and sit 15th in the Premier League table.
