Club are seeking midfield reinforcements this summer and Gallagher’s Premier League experience makes him an appealing and affordable option for Eddie Howe

Newcastle United are exploring the possibility of bringing Conor Gallagher back to the Premier League, with the midfielder reportedly open to leaving Atletico Madrid after just one season in Spain.

Gallagher joined Atletico from Chelsea last summer and featured in 50 matches across all competitions. However, despite being well-regarded within the club, he started just 19 league games and is believed to be weighing up his future in a bid to revive his England career ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Newcastle have identified Gallagher as a potential midfield addition and are prepared to test Atletico’s resolve with an offer in the region of £36m. The Spanish side are not actively looking to sell but are aware that the player’s desire for more regular football could become a factor.

Newcastle are seeking midfield reinforcements this summer, and with PSR restrictions still influencing their spending, Gallagher’s Premier League experience makes him an appealing and affordable option for Eddie Howe.

The midfielder has won 22 caps for England but was omitted from Thomas Tuchel’s first international squad since the German’s appointment. Sources close to the player suggest he remains determined to reclaim his place ahead of the next major international tournament and believes a move back to England could strengthen his case.
