Manuel Neuer and Bayern Munich agree to postpone talks on his future as the veteran evaluates recovery from a muscle injury.

Manuel Neuer and Bayern Munich have reportedly agreed to delay a final decision on the goalkeeper’s future. The veteran shot-stopper wants additional time to assess how his body responds after recovering from a recent muscle tear.

According to reports, Neuer personally requested that Bayern’s hierarchy hold off on discussions regarding his contract and long-term plans. The 40-year-old is keen to evaluate his physical condition before deciding whether to extend his career or consider retirement.

The club’s management is said to have accepted the request, showing their willingness to support the long-serving captain. A final decision is not expected before the upcoming UEFA Champions League return leg against Real Madrid in mid-April.

Neuer is currently continuing his rehabilitation at Säbener Straße, Bayern’s training base. The goalkeeper also recently celebrated his 40th birthday, receiving congratulatory messages from across the football world, highlighting his lasting impact on the game.

Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund has already hinted that the club are open to giving Neuer the time he needs. He emphasised that ongoing communication remains positive and that the final call will depend on how the goalkeeper feels physically over the coming months.

Former Germany goalkeeping great Andreas Köpke also weighed in, suggesting he expects Neuer to continue for at least another year. He noted that an extension would benefit both the club and younger players within the squad.

Köpke added that keeping Neuer around would help emerging goalkeeper Jonas Urbig continue learning from one of the game’s most iconic figures. For now, all parties appear content to wait, with Neuer’s fitness set to determine what happens next.
