Napoli have announced that star striker Romelu Lukaku is set to return to action on December 18, 2025, for the Supercoppa Italiana semi-final against AC Milan.
Napoli fans have been eagerly awaiting the return of their star striker, Romelu Lukaku after he suffered a major lesion of the muscles in his left thigh during a pre-season friendly against Olympiacos on August 14.
The centre-forward’s injury was immediately deemed serious, requiring three to four months of treatment and rehabilitation. Napoli’s medical staff have been erring on the side of caution, prioritizing Lukaku’s full recovery over a rushed return to action.
Initially, there were hopes that Lukaku could return by the end of November, but reports suggest that’s unlikely. Instead, Napoli has set a target date for his return: December 18, 2025, when they’ll face AC Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana semi-final.
The Supercoppa Italiana Final Four tournament will be held in Saudi Arabia, with the other semi-final featuring Bologna and Lukaku’s old club, Inter. The winners will then face off to lift the trophy, and Napoli is hoping Lukaku will be fit to make a significant impact.
Lukaku’s absence has been felt but Holjund who was signed as his replacement, has filled the void seamlessly. Hojlund has four goals in six appearances for the Serie A giants.
