Napoli secure a 1-0 victory over Cagliari to extend their winning run and move within six points of Serie A leaders Inter Milan.
Napoli made it four consecutive wins in Serie A with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Cagliari Calcio, tightening the gap on leaders Inter Milan.
The match began in dramatic fashion, with Cagliari falling behind inside the opening two minutes. A defensive error allowed Rasmus Højlund to pressure goalkeeper Elia Caprile into conceding a corner, which eventually led to a chaotic scramble in the box. The ball ricocheted off the post before Scott McTominay tapped in from close range.
Napoli nearly doubled their advantage shortly after when Matteo Politano found space to drive a shot toward the near post, but Caprile reacted well to push the effort wide. Despite the early setback, Cagliari struggled to create meaningful chances in response.
As the first half progressed, the hosts found it difficult to establish attacking rhythm. Napoli remained organized defensively, and goalkeeper Vanja Milinković-Savić was largely untroubled, with Cagliari failing to register a shot on target before the break.
After halftime, Napoli continued to threaten and came close to extending their lead. Politano was played through on goal, but his low strike was saved again by Caprile, keeping Cagliari within touching distance.
Cagliari made several substitutions in an attempt to spark a comeback, but frequent stoppages disrupted their momentum. Napoli controlled proceedings comfortably and protected their slim advantage without facing significant pressure.
The victory moves Napoli into second place, six points behind Inter, although they have played one game more. Meanwhile, Cagliari’s seven-match winless run leaves them hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone, with Fabio Pisacane’s side at risk of being drawn deeper into the survival battle.
