Napoli are searching for a new striker after Romelu Lukaku’s thigh injury is expected to keep him sidelined for several weeks.

Napoli have bad news ahead of the season as striker Romelu Lukaku’s thigh injury is expected to keep him out of action for several weeks.

The Belgian forward suffered the injury during Napoli’s 2-0 win over Olympiacos on August 14. Although the official injury update from Napoli is expected to be released today, Italian reports suggest that Napoli is already aware of the severity of Lukaku’s condition.

With Lukaku’s absence, Napoli’s director Giovanni Manna has been tasked with finding a new striker to bolster the team’s attacking options. The club has already identified several top candidates to fill the gap. The leading candidates for the role are Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee, Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta, Roma’s Artem Dovbyk, and Lecce’s Nikola Krstovic.

Napoli has some experience to fall back on with Lorenzo Lucca, who was signed from Udinese earlier this summer. However, with the sales of Giovanni Simeone and Giacomo Raspadori, Lucca remains the only other option in the center-forward position. The club will need to act quickly to find a suitable replacement for Lukaku.

In other news, Napoli is close to completing its seventh summer signing with Spanish left-back Miguel Gutierrez, who began medical tests this morning.
