Napoli’s quest for the Serie A title was put on hold following a 0-0 draw against Parma on Sunday.
Despite the setback, Napoli remain at the top of the table, holding a slender one-point lead over Inter Milan with one match remaining in the season.
The match at the Stadio Ennio Tardini was a tense affair, with Napoli dominating possession and creating several scoring opportunities. Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa came closest to breaking the deadlock, hitting the post in the first half. Matteo Politano also had a near miss, but Parma’s defence held firm. A late penalty appeal for Napoli was overturned after a VAR review identified a prior foul, adding to the visitors’ frustration.
The match’s intensity spilled over to the sidelines, resulting in red cards for Napoli coach Antonio Conte and Parma’s Cristian Chivu following a touchline altercation. Conte will be absent from the touchline for Napoli’s final game against Cagliari.
Reflecting on the match, Conte described the season as the most challenging of his career, emphasising the emotional and physical toll of the title race. Despite the draw, he praised his team’s resilience and expressed confidence in their ability to secure the title in the final match.
Napoli’s fate remains in their hands. A victory against Cagliari will secure their first Serie A title since 2023, regardless of Inter’s result against Como. However, any slip-up could open the door for Inter to overtake them.
As the season reaches its conclusion, Napoli must regroup and focus on the task ahead. With the support of their fans at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, they have the opportunity to end the season on a high note and claim the coveted Scudetto.
