Napoli Comes From Behind to Beat Struggling Lecce 2-1

Politano scores the winner as Napoli comes from a goal down to defeat relegation-threatened Lecce 2-1

Napoli secured a 2-1 win over Lecce at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, bouncing back from a goal down to secure their third successive win in Serie A.

The victory extends Napoli’s unbeaten head-to-head run to eight games, with six wins and two draws.

Lecce took the lead in the third minute, with Jamil Siebert rising highest to meet Danilo Veiga’s corner and power a header past Alex Meret. Napoli had much of the possession in the opening 45 minutes, but Lecce were the more creative going forward.

Lameck Banda nearly doubled Lecce’s lead midway through the half, but Mathias Olivera blocked the shot. Napoli’s best chance of the half came from Matteo Politano, who got forward on a counter-attack but hit the side netting.

Napoli equalized just after the restart, with Bobby Gilmour playing in Politano on the wing. Rasmus Hojlund’s cross was deflected into the net, but it was Politano who scored the winner less than 10 minutes later.

The goal came from a looping header from a corner, with Politano hitting his volley first-time into the back of the net. Lecce failed to create any meaningful chances after going down, and ultimately finished with 10 men after Banda was stretchered off.

The victory keeps Napoli in contention for the Serie A title, with the team remaining unbeaten at home this season. Lecce, on the other hand, are still in the relegation zone, three points above the drop.

Napoli’s next match is against Atalanta, while Lecce face Torino. The result is a welcome boost for Napoli, who will be looking to maintain their momentum in the coming weeks.
