Napoli’s 3-1 win over Inter Milan sees them back on top of Serie A, but Kevin De Bruyne’s injury casts a shadow over the victory.

Napoli secured a 3-1 win over Inter Milan, and they are now top of the Serie A. However, the victory is overshadowed by Kevin De Bruyne’s injury.

The Belgian midfielder converted a penalty to open the scoring, but immediately clutched the back of his right leg, seemingly in tears, and was eventually taken off the field on a motorised stretcher.

The match was a tense and intense encounter, with both teams creating chances. Inter’s Alessandro Bastoni nodded a corner just wide, and Hakan Calhanoglu bent his finish past the post in the opening minutes. Napoli’s pressure paid off, earning a penalty, which De Bruyne converted.

However, De Bruyne’s injury has left Napoli anxiously awaiting test results, with fears it could be a similar problem he experienced at Manchester City in 2023. The midfielder’s absence is a blow to Napoli, who have already been hit by injury problems this season.

Inter had opportunities to equalize, but Napoli’s defence held firm. Scott McTominay’s ferocious half-volley doubled Napoli’s lead, but Inter pulled one back through Calhanoglu’s penalty, awarded after VAR spotted Alessandro Buongiorno’s foul.

The tension erupted with a scuffle on the touchline, resulting in harsh hand gestures between Lautaro Martinez and Antonio Conte. Napoli struck again on the counter, with Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa’s finish securing the win.

Napoli’s victory is a crucial one, given their recent struggles. They had lost four of their last seven official games, including a 6-2 hammering at PSV Eindhoven. This win is a much-needed boost to their title hopes.

Inter, who had won seven games in a row, will be disappointed to have dropped points. However, they remain in contention for the title, and their next match will be a crucial test.

Napoli will hope De Bruyne’s injury isn’t serious, as they look to build on this win and maintain their position at the top of Serie A.
