Jamal Musiala could return to Bayern Munich’s matchday squad against RB Leipzig after nearly seven months out.
Jamal Musiala could be in line for a long-awaited return to Bayern Munich’s squad this weekend, with head coach Vincent Kompany confirming the midfielder may feature against RB Leipzig in Saturday’s Bundesliga clash.
The 22-year-old Germany international has been sidelined for almost seven months after suffering a serious fibula fracture along with a broken and dislocated ankle during Bayern’s Club World Cup match against Paris Saint-Germain in early July. The injury occurred following a heavy collision with then-PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Prior to the setback, Musiala had been enjoying an outstanding campaign, contributing 21 goals and eight assists across all competitions as Bayern went on to reclaim the Bundesliga title. His absence was a significant blow, both for club and country, with Musiala viewed as a central figure in Germany’s plans for the 2026 World Cup.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Kompany offered an encouraging update on the playmaker’s condition. “If all goes well today, the plan is that he will be there,” the Bayern coach said, suggesting Musiala could make the matchday squad in Leipzig.
Despite missing one of their most influential players, Bayern have maintained remarkable momentum this season. Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Köln saw them reach 47 points at the halfway stage, setting a new Bundesliga record with a goal difference of +53 and a league-high 66 goals scored.
Kompany highlighted the psychological boost Musiala brings after such a long recovery. “Obviously, Jamal has a lot of positive energy coming out of this dark tunnel,” he explained, adding that the experience often sharpens a player’s appreciation for the game.
However, the Bayern boss was quick to temper expectations, stressing that Musiala—and fellow returnee Alphonso Davies—will not be rushed back into decisive roles. “I don’t expect them to decide games for us,” Kompany said.
