Egyptian could link up with Mane and Ronaldo in a mouth-watering front three in the Saudi Pro League

Mohamed Salah has confirmed he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season, and there is no shortage of options regarding where the Egyptian superstar will play next.

First, it’s worth noting that his agent Ramy Abbas Issa has already pre-empted the inevitable speculation over his next destination. “We do not know where Mohamed will play next season,” Issa said. “This also means that no one else knows. Beware of the attention seekers.”

So it cannot be said with certainty where Salah will play next – even his agents don’t know yet – but there are several possibilities.

Saudi Arabia is without question the leading option. Europe has been the Egyptian king’s playground for years, but the Saudi Pro League is closer to home, just opposite the Red Sea.

There is also the cultural and religious pull. When Karim Benzema joined Al-Ittihad and was asked why he moved to Saudi Arabia, the Frenchman said: “Because I’m Muslim and this is a Muslim country, and I have always wanted to live here.”

The Saudi Pro League will be all in for Salah, a popular Arab player who not only remains a top talent but will further boost the league’s profile. Al-Ittihad are probably strong contenders, having previously attempted to sign him. The Jeddah-based side are looking to rebuild after Benzema’s departure to Al-Hilal and could offer Salah a leading role.

Al-Ahli are another option for Salah, although they already have Riyad Mahrez in strong form. Al-Hilal could also seek reinforcements in attack, even if they have already made high-profile signings, including Benzema and Darwin Nunez.

But a move to Al-Nassr is perhaps the most interesting. It would see Salah potentially link up with Ronaldo and former Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane in a front line that will make waves. Ronaldo has previously protested Al-Nassr’s lack of signings, and even boycotted league games after rivals Al-Hilal signed Benzema in January.
