Liverpool’s star forward Mohamed Salah is on the verge of signing a new contract that will see him remain at Anfield for at least two more seasons. Talks between Liverpool’s sporting director Richard Hughes and the player’s agent are reported to be progressing well.
Salah had previously said that the current season would be his last at Liverpool, as the club had not spoken to him about a contract. The situation appears to have changed.
Despite Salah being 32 years old and turning 33 in June, there are no indications at the moment that there will be a pay cut. The Liverpool talisman currently earns £350,000 per week.
Salah has scored 32 goals and provided 22 assists in all competitions so far this season, firing Liverpool to the top of the Premier League table and keeping them there. With contract talks now positive, the Egyptian king will have the chance to extend his reign over the Premier League for a few more years.
This development comes after Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk announced after last week’s shocking 3-2 defeat to Fulham that he was having positive talks with the club about his contract, and was confident that a deal would be done.
Throughout this season, there have been vocal concerns as three of Liverpool’s most senior and experienced players, Salah, van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, all had their contracts due to expire in the summer.
Of all three, it now looks like Alexander-Arnold will be the one to leave, with Real Madrid interested in the highly-rated full back.
