Denmark international wants to stay at United but is also open to leaving in search of regular minutes
AC Milan have shifted their focus away from Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund as they step up efforts to sign Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic before the close of the transfer window.
Hojlund had been considered a candidate to lead Milan’s attack, but sources in Italy suggest the club now view Vlahovic as the more reliable option.
The Serbian forward, who has scored consistently in Serie A since breaking through at Fiorentina, is regarded as a player capable of delivering 15 to 20 goals a season.
United signed Hojlund from Atalanta last summer in a deal worth up to €85m, but the 22-year-old has struggled to establish himself at Old Trafford.
He managed 10 goals in 52 appearances in all competitions last season and was left out of the squad entirely for the opening-day defeat to Arsenal, which suggests where he stands under manager Ruben Amorim.
With Benjamin Sesko likely to feature regularly at the head of United’s attack and talented younger forwards such as Chido Obi available as backup, United are prepared to consider offers for Hojlund.
The Denmark international wants to stay at the club but is also open to leaving in search of regular minutes. Another option for Hojlund could be Napoli, who need a replacement for the injured Romelu Lukaku and have reportedly opened talks with Hojlund’s representatives.
However, any deal with Napoli is expected to be a season-long loan move.
