Maria Sol is “out of danger” but will need time to recover and the wedding has been suspended
Lionel Messi’s sister has been injured in a serious road accident, suffering multiple fractures and burns.
While driving in Miami, Florida, Maria Sol lost control of her vehicle and hit a wall. According to those close to the family, she required urgent medical treatment but is now “okay” and “out of danger”, though her injuries are serious and it will take her quite some time to fully recover.
The 32-year-old was due to be married in January but plans for her wedding have been put on hold as she focuses on recovery.
“She suffered burns and burns are very difficult to treat as well as displacement of vertebrae,” said Argentine journalist Angel de Brito . “She’s already started her rehabilitation in Rosario.
“I asked her mum Celia Cuccittini because I’d received some information and she told me it’s true but that Maria Sol is okay. She has two fractured vertebrae, a fractured heel and wrist. The wedding is going to be put back. Celia told me she fainted and hit a wall.”
Maria Sol had been set to marry Julian Arellano, a member of Inter Miami’s coaching staff who works within the club’s under-19 setup. The ceremony was to take place in Rosario, the Messi family’s hometown, on 3 January but has now been postponed indefinitely.
