New signing says Manchester United are “the club of my dreams”

Bryan Mbeumo is determined to “challenge for the biggest trophies” after sealing his £71m move to Manchester United.

The Cameroon international completed his medical on Sunday and then signed a five-year contract with the option to extend for another year. He joins United as Ruben Amorim’s third signing of the transfer window, after Matheus Cunha was brought in from Wolves for £62.5m earlier in the summer.

Mbeumo said: “As soon as I knew there was a chance to join Manchester United, I had to take the opportunity to sign for the club of my dreams; the team whose shirt I wore growing up.”

The Cameroon international also had interest from Tottenham, whose new manager Thomas Frank coached him for five years at Brentford. However, Mbeumo made it clear that he only wanted to move to United.

He is expected to play as the right sided No 10 in Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, while Cunha lines up on the left. Both players will be aiming to bring more bite to a United attack that looked toothless for most of last season.

Mbeumo scored 20 goals in the Premier League in 2024-25, nearly half of what United as a whole could muster. But he is aiming to reach even greater heights going forward.

“My mentality is to always be better than I was yesterday,” said Mbeumo. “I know that I have the spirit and character to reach another level here, learning from Ruben Amorim and playing alongside world-class players.

“Everybody told me about the environment that is being created here and how exciting the plans are for the future. This is a massive club, with an incredible stadium and amazing fans, we are all really determined to challenge for the biggest trophies.”
