Cameroon international “just wants the two clubs to find an agreement”, says his national team assistant manager
Cameroon assistant coach Cyprian Besong has confirmed that Bryan Mbeumo is growing increasingly frustrated by the lack of progress in his proposed move to Manchester United.
United have held talks with Brentford throughout the summer but the two clubs remain apart on valuation. Brentford are holding out for a fee of up to £65m, while United’s latest bid – reported to be worth up to £62.5m – was rejected last week.
Speaking in an interview with Telecom Asia, Besong said the 25-year-old forward remains composed but is eager for the situation to be resolved.
“Yes, obviously he’s very frustrated with how long it’s taken,” said Besong. “But he’s a professional and anticipates these things. He just wants the two clubs to find an agreement. He’s very grateful to Brentford but he has told them he wants to go to United.”
Mbeumo, who scored 20 Premier League goals last season, is viewed by United as a key part of their attacking rebuild. Ruben Amorim is pushing for additions in the No 10 areas of his 3-4-3 system. United are also expected to lose four forwards – Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Antony – this summer.
Mbeumo has not reported for Brentford’s pre-season training, fuelling speculation that an exit is close. United began their own preparations this week, with new signing Matheus Cunha already integrated into the group.
While the window remains open until the end of August, United hope to finalise Mbeumo’s signing in time for the club’s summer tour.
