Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca admits Liverpool might be too far ahead to catch, with the Reds boasting a perfect start to the season and a five-point lead over Arsenal.

Liverpool’s ruthless start to the season has left rivals conceding the Premier League title already. The Reds have won all five of their league games, with a five-point lead over Arsenal, seven points ahead of Chelsea, and eight points clear of Manchester City. This dominant performance has led Chelsea’s Enzo Maresca to fear that it might be “impossible to catch them”.

Maresca’s concerns stem from Liverpool’s impressive display, including late winners against Bournemouth, Newcastle, and Burnley. Their win in the Merseyside derby extended their perfect start to the defence of their title, and they’ve continued to come up trumps while their rivals have dropped points. Liverpool’s early statement win against Arsenal at Anfield opened up a slight buffer at the top.

The Reds’ significant investment in new recruits, spending over £400 million, has paid off so far. They broke the British transfer record twice to land Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak. Maresca believes Liverpool’s intention to win the Premier League and Champions League is clear, given their recruitment and performance.

Liverpool’s perfect start has extended to the European stage, with a thrilling win against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. Despite squandering a 2-0 lead, Virgil van Dijk’s stoppage-time header secured the win for the Reds.

The Reds are seeking to win successive league titles for the first time since the 1980s and have put themselves in the perfect position to do so. Arsenal, tipped as their most likely challengers, have already had their own issues, and Maresca’s comments suggest that Liverpool might be too far ahead to catch.
